Technical Analyst / Developer - NetSuite Planning & Budgeting (NSPB)

Full Time Employee

Job Summary

experience with multi-dimensional modeling, and a passion for performance tuning and system optimization

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Analyst / Developer to support and enhance our NetSuite Planning & Budgeting (NSPB) platform. This role is responsible for ensuring optimal application performance, maintaining and developing calculation rules/scripts, supporting data integration processes, and driving continuous improvement across our planning ecosystem.
The ideal candidate brings a strong technical foundation in NetSuite Planning & Budgeting (NSPB), Oracle EPM/Hyperion Planning or Essbase, experience with multi-dimensional modeling, and a passion for performance tuning and system optimization. This role partners closely with FP&A, Accounting, and IT to deliver a high-performing planning and forecasting environment.

Key Responsibilities
Performance Optimization & Multi-Dimensional Modeling
  • Serve as the primary technical SME for NSPB application design, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Manage dimension and metadata maintenance (hierarchies, member properties, aliases, attributes).
  • Optimize calculation performance, aggregation processes, and business rules.
  • Tune data retrieval performance in Smart View / NSB UI (e.g., reduce query times, optimize grids & filters).
  • Conduct performance diagnostics (query logs, calc logs, data load logs, aggregation traces).
  • Recommend improvements to cube design, dimensionality, sparse/dense settings, and caching behaviors.
  • Perform periodic cube restructures to maintain optimal performance across periods and model changes.
Rule / Script Development
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain NSPB Business Rules and data maps.
  • Translate FP&A business logic into performant calculation logic (driver-based models, allocations, spreading, FX conversions, eliminations).
  • Build and optimize complex calculation scripts, including Hybrid/BSO-style logic adapted for NSPB architecture.
  • Support automation of recurring calculations (e.g., allocations, workforce plans, CapEx schedules, revenue models).
Data Integration & Automation
  • Manage and optimize data flows between NetSuite ERP, NSPB, and third-party systems.
  • Support Planning & Budgeting Sync and EPM Connector integrations; troubleshoot saved searches, data mapping, and import jobs.
  • Develop automated routines for metadata updates, data refreshes, and scheduled jobs.
  • Support integration transformation logic using SQL, Python, Power Query, or ETL tools where appropriate.
Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis
  • Serve as an escalation point for system issues, integration failures, calc rule errors, and performance degradation.
  • Perform root cause analysis for load failures, incorrect data aggregation, missing metadata, or slow retrieve times.
  • Develop/expand structured runbooks, validation scripts, and performance dashboards/logs.
Cross-Functional Support
  • Partner with FP&A and Accounting teams to translate planning requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Support monthly/quarterly planning cycles by ensuring system readiness and stable performance.
  • Train end users on Smart View, forms, data validation, and error troubleshooting.
  • Maintain clean documentation for rules, metadata, integration flows, and performance tuning changes.

Qualifications
Required
  • 3–6+ years supporting Planning & Forecasting/EPM systems in a technical capacity.
  • Hands-on experience with NetSuite Planning & Budgeting (NSPB) or Oracle Planning Cloud / EPBCS / Hyperion Planning.
  • Strong understanding of multi-dimensional models (BSO/Hybrid), metadata management, and performance tuning techniques.
  • Experience writing and optimizing: Calculation scripts (Calc Manager), Groovy rules, Business Rules (forms, data maps, allocations) and Data management/metadata automation
  • Hands-on experience improving: Aggregation times, Retrieve/query performance, Cube restructure and optimization
  • Proficient in SQL, Excel/Power Query, Smart View, and logic validation.

Preferred
  • Experience with Oracle Essbase (BSO/ASO), including load rules, data exports, calc scripts, and outline tuning.
  • Background working with financial processes (forecasting, budgeting, consolidations, workforce planning).
  • Experience with NetSuite ERP Saved Searches, Planning & Budgeting Sync, and data import job tuning.
  • Scripting/automation skills in Python, VBA, or ETL tools.
  • Understanding of intercompany eliminations, FX translation, and driver-based planning models.
